Axis helped the EA to prepare its winning submission in the Community Category of the ICE NW Civil Engineering Awards 2018, announced 9 March at the Awards Ceremony, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool. The EA was delighted to be presented with this prestigious award, beating off competition from other major engineering projects in the northwest including Mersey Gateway.

The ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) judging panel was clearly satisfied that the completed scheme ticked all the qualifying criteria. The award recognises the considerable effort given to satisfying the needs of the local community and other key project partners affected by the flood defence scheme.

The submission celebrated the completion of the £34 million Mersey Warrington flood risk management scheme, which Axis has been involved in for the last six years. The scheme will leave legacies of: significant public realm improvements for Knutsford Road and Victoria Park; nature conservation enhancements for the Twiggeries; improved connectivity along the river through improved cycleways and footpaths; and interpretation of features of heritage importance.
